Start the Winter right and sign up for StoryTime and other winter activities.

    The Children's Room  is full of fun activities  for children of all ages.  The winter session of                 Storytime will begin on Tuesday, January 5th and run through February 9th.  Story times are every     Tuesday.  For toddlers 1  1/2  to 3 years Storytime will begin at 10:30 a.m.  For PreSchool ages 3 to     5 years Storytime will begin at 1:30 p.m.  Sign  up is required.  Check the calendar for other fun         activities to enjoy throughout the winter months.

JJ PICTURE BOOKS
Mouse Was Mad, Linda Urban.  Mouse was mad, very mad so he hopped.  The Kangaroo showed him how to hop properly but he hopped into a puddle.  The other animals also showed him how to stomp, scream and roll and he ended in the puddle every time.  Find out what Mouse can do to get over being mad.

Jibberwillies at Night, Rachel Vail.  A happy little girl by day is afraid of the jibberwillies at night.  Her mother comes to her room one night to comfort her.  They decide to catch the jibberwillies in a bucket.  Find out if the bucket idea works.

Bubble Trouble,  Margaret Mahy.  Little Mabel is blowing bubbles when one gets away from her and cocoons her baby brother inside.  It's a mad dash all over town as everyone tries to help catch the baby in a bubble.  Is the baby doomed to float inside the bubble forever?

Roawr!  Barbara Joosse.  Liam is snuggled in his house one evening when he hears a ROAWR!  Mother says no outside noises in the house and off to bed he goes.  He hears noises again and goes to investigate.  He does meet a bear and comes up with a clever way to capture the bear so it won't get his mother.

How to Heal a Broken Wing,  Bob Graham.  A bird hits a glass window high up in the city and fell.  A boy named Will discovers the bird on the sidewalk and takes it home.  The bird has a broken wing so the family takes care of the bird.  Does the bird learn to fly again?

NOVELS - AGE 8 AND OLDER

Top of the Order, John Coy.  The Panthers fifth grade baseball team needs a second baseman.  When a girl named Sydney fills the position and joins the baseball team, its is not what any of them expected.  The life experiences of Gig, Isaac, Diego and Jackson off the field are intertwined with the theme of baseball.   The kids learn about getting along, working as a team and being open to change in this light and action filled story.

   The Lucky Ones, Stephanie Greene.  The story is set sometime in the past, at a mansion by the sea.  Cecile is a 12 year         old girl on a not-so-fun summer vacation with her family.  Her 14 year old sister Natalie, is thinking only about boys and         this is starting to annoy Cecile.  In addition to that, her parents are arguing too much.  As she tries to cope with the             changes that are taking place in her life, she learns that it is OK to do things in her own way and at her own pace.

   The Seven Keys of Balabad, Paul Haven.  Twelve year old Oliver Finch is not happy about moving from manhattan to             Balabad in the Middle East where his father will be working as a foreign correspondent. Once there, Oliver and his best         friend Zee meet a carpet salesman who share magnificent stories with the boys.  When a sacred 500 year old carpet is         stolen and the carpet seller is kidnapped, the boys go on an adventure to solve the mystery of the crimes.

    The Gecko and Sticky:  Lillian's Lair, Wendelin Van Draanen.  Thirteen year old Dave Sanchez and his talking gecko,             Sticky, are on a scary adventure.  They must find the magical Aztec ingots that paired with a wristband they already have     given the wearer special powers.  Unfortunately, they first must battle the evil villain Damien Black at his dark and dreary     mansion!

    The Valentine Cat, Ann Whitehead Nagda.  When Jenny's brother gets asthma from her cat Munchkin, she is forced to         find her pet a new home.  Fortunately, her teacher offers a temporary place for him in their classroom.  Will Munchkin's         mischievous behavior keep him from finding a permanent home?  This is an amusing story with accompanying illustrations     for the early chapter book reader.

    GRAPHIC NOVELS AGE 8 AND OLDER

    Space Cops,
Steve Bowkett.  When the Space Cops decide to follow a mysterious blip on the radar, what they find is a         giant machine, controlled by the universe's worst villain!  Can they stop him from destroying planet Earth?  Find out in this     great science fiction story, easy to read for those who are unfamiliar with graphic novels.  A glossary and discussion             questions are in the back of the book, to keep you thinking and learning.

    The Kickball Kids, Cari Meister.  Kyle's kickball team is very good, but they're also the youngest team in the kickball             tournament!  When they have to go up against the Super Sharks, a fifth grade team, will all their practice be worth it?          Will they be able to beat the fifth graders?  Find out in this sporty graphic novel!

    Sam and Friends Mystery:  Book One:  Dracula Madness, Mary Labatt.  Sam is a canine detective who just met her new     dog walker, a ten-year-old girl named Jennie who can hear Sam's thoughts! Together, they decide to investigate the             spookiest house in Woodford:  a dark, mysterious house whose owner refuses to let people inside!  What could he be             hiding?  Could the house be haunted?

NON-FICTION AGE 8 AND OLDER

    Tasmanian Devil, Joyce Markovics.  When people discovered Tasmania, an island south of Australia they heard piercing         screams.  They quickly discovered a marsupial and named it "Tasmanian Devil".  Studies today have shown that they are         not the savage beasts the first explorers thought.  To learn more about these creatures, check out the book.

    Ack! Icky, Sticky, Gross Stuff Underground, Pam Rosenberg.  Loaded with fun facts and trivia for the budding scientist     who likes creepy crawlies.  Not for the faint hearted!

    How to Scratch a Wombat, Jackie French.  What is a wombat?  A wombat is a cute animal about the size of a beaver that     lives in Australia.  The author has written several books for children about the creatures and their quirks.  They love             carrots and will quickly train you to feed them. They sleep during the day and come out in the evening to eat and explore.     To learn more about these interesting animals, grab this book.

    Boy, were we wrong about the Solar System!, Kathleen V. Kundlinski.  This is an interesting book about the solar system     and how people started noticing the changes in space.  Pluto is no longer a planet but one of many planets in the system.     Good information on the discoveries of the solar system.

    Face to Face with Gorillas, Michael "Nick" Nichols.  Everything you wanted to know about gorillas and more is included in     this book.  The author tells of following a gorilla and how their habitat is slowly being destroyed.
