Volunteer Opportunities

Get Involved!

The Topsfield Town Library benefits from the involvement and dedication of its volunteers on a daily basis.  The volunteer program is extremely valuable to the library, for it improves service, increases productivity, and enhances the library’s community ties. The library has a number of regular volunteer positions and can sometimes use help for special projects.  Another great way to volunteer is to work with the Friends of the Library.

Volunteers are needed at the Topsfield Town Library in the Adult fiction and non-fiction collections, YA collection, Children’s Room and Technical Service Department.  Volunteers make a difference in the way the library runs and services the public. 

Volunteer positions available in the Library:

  • Shelving library material
  • Shelf reading and organizing library material – making sure material is in proper order, may include shifting books
  • Preparing new items for public use by covering material, stamping, pocket placement and other necessary tasks to be completed in the tech-service department
  • Clerical work such as copying essential library forms
  • Changing status of new items to regular collection
  • Supporting Children’s programs with Children’s Librarian
  • Preparing craft projects for Children’s storytime/summer reading
Volunteer Criteria
  • Will take the time to be properly trained
  • Can keep a consistent schedule
  • Enjoys attention to detail
  • Is able to complete reasonable tasks assigned per visit
  • Is able to bend, reach and lift if shelving
  • Understands material organization – alphabetical and Dewey decimal system
  • Enjoys children if applicable to position
  • Complies with the library’s Volunteer Policy
