“Anime” means “animation” in Japanese. In the US, it refers to animated movies and TV shows that were made in Japan, usually recognizable by a distinctive style, including oversized eyes and heads, bright colors, and elongated limbs. Anime is available for any age group, from young children, to teens, to adults, and comes in every genre imaginable.

Simply put, manga are Japanese comic books. Like anime, manga is made for every age group and every genre. Series usually last several tankobon, or volumes, and some become so popular that they are eventually made into an anime. Your favorite anime series may have started out as a manga!

We're currently trying to build our anime and manga collection. If you don't see anything you like, e-mail us with your favorite series, and we'll consider adding it!
Don't forget--just because we don't own a title doesn't mean you can't get it. We can request items from over 30 other libraries to be sent here to Topsfield. Waiting a couple days for a book to get here sure beats buying it at the bookstore for $10 per volume (and a whole anime series on DVD is way more than that. You can request anime, too!) Search the MVLC catalog from home, and check out what's available. If you want to request something, click "place a hold" and type in your library card barcode number and password (default is the last four digits of your phone number) and it will be sent to Topsfield for you to pick up!
